As a rule, I try to feature music on Popservations only if it can be purchased (even when import is the sole option) or obtained for free via the artist, label, or other legit source. It seems silly to ask that you also fall in love with a tune and end by saying, “Hey, have fun tracking it down.” Now, over the nearly three years of this blog’s existence, there have been exceptions, and there will likely continue to be such rare occasions, but that’s mostly the way this blog rolls.
Thus it’s been three weeks since Frankmusik premiered “The Fear Inside,” the first single from the British artist/producer’s sophomore album, Do It In The AM, and the music video’s been around for a bit too. But it’s only as of today that “The Fear Inside” is up for download via your preferred music vendor. So it’s time to take a listen and look at the latest from Mr. Vincent Frank (if you haven’t already):
I never did get around to giving Frankmusik some space here last year when Complete Me was frequently on my iPod (shame on me), though his song “Time Will Tell” did make my list of the Top 100 Tracks of 2009. The shamelessly-pop album is still very much worth a whirl — think a much more upbeat Philip Oakey from The Human League — and since Complete Me is also available for download, there’s no need to pay a premium for the import like I did.
Having only heard “The Fear Inside,” it sounds like Frankmusik has switched up his electro-pop, going in less dance-y direction for Do It In The AM. He seems to have chucked his British accent as well (there goes my Oakey reference), or perhaps he simply lost it in his move from London to Los Angeles back in January (however, he did not forget the robot). Now signed to Cherrytree Records, the label which Robyn, Lady Gaga, La Roux, Far East Movement, and Natalia Kills all call home, I have no doubt that Vincent Frank’s music is going to get noticed in the States this time around.
