I enjoyed UK popstar Alesha Dixon‘s 2008 album, The Alesha Show, particularly “Let’s Get Excited.” Sadly, only one single, “The Boy Does Nothing,” ever surfaced on download services here. Ironic, since it was one of my least favorite tracks, but I never did care for Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5” either.
In November, Dixon released a new LP, The Entertainer, with America squarely in “her vision” this time around. The tougher-sounding set, Dixon’s third, does have its share of standouts that could help the singer/Strictly Come Dancing judge dial up U.S. success, like “Radio,” which served as the second single in the UK. The song would seem a perfect candidate for Dixon here, with a music video filmed at trailer park near Los Angeles.
Today, however, a different track, “Every Little Part Of Me,” unexpectedly appeared on iTunes, serving as The Entertainer‘s U.S. debut single. And really, Dixon could do worse than this pop-by-numbers tune that features Jay Sean, a fellow Brit who’s no stranger to the upper limit of the Billboard Hot 100 (“Down”).
Both look beautiful in the music video below, though the parking-garage setting is a bit trite. The clip’s climax offers a surprise flip on the song’s catchily repetitive “Put your hands up” lyric, so bonus points for slightly upending expectations.
< Is Alesha Dixon the real femme fatale? I guess we’ll have to wait for “Every Little Part Of Me, Part 2” to find out. Five bucks says that one’ll take place in a prison visiting room, maybe with a cameo by Jay Sean’s labelmate, Lil Wayne.
