Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” is still #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, celebrating a sixth consecutive week (its entire chart life) for those keeping count. But by now, you could very well be bored with the same-old, same-old “Born This Way,” so Gaga has debuted two new versions to shake out any ear-doldrums.
At the stroke of midnight as promised, Lady Gaga tweeted a link to the “Country Road Version” of “Born This Way.” No, our meat-and-egg loving superstar hasn’t adopted a southern twang nor is it a boot-scootin’ barn-burner, but this re-sung revamp is definitely rougher around the edges.
The “Country Road Version” features heavy mouth organ, er, harmonica, plus a brand-new bridge in which “making it country” gets a mention. You know, just in case y’all missed the very subtle point Gaga made with the name of this particular project.
Actually, the harmonica in “Born This Way” reminds me a lot of Eurythmics’ “Missionary Man,” which wasn’t country at all, was it? Bluesy, sure.
Returning to the dancefloor proper, today also brought the iTunes debut of the Starsmith Remix of “Born This Way.” Lady Gaga contributed this exclusive track to Songs For Japan, an all-star release that benefits the Japanese Red Cross. (You might have noticed the ad for it next to this post.)
“Born This Way (Starsmith Remix)” is the only exclusive on the 38-song album, as far as I can tell. You can check out a :90 teaser below before opening your wallet:
