Chris Carrabba Is ‘Forever’ Young

I don’t mind a bit of rock every now and again, and while browsing iTunes last Tuesday, I was won over by a sample of of Further Seems Forever‘s new single, “So Cold.” Knowing nothing further, it wasn’t until I watched the band’s music video for the song that I was all, “Hey, isn’t that Chris Carrabba?” and “What’s he doing out in front of those much older looking guys?”

As I’ve since discovered, Further Seems Forever is far from a new band. Carrabba was the South Florida group’s original lead singer, leaving after their debut album (2001’s The Moon Is Down) to focus his attention on what had been a side project, Dashboard Confessional. Following Carrabba’s amicable departure, Further Seems Forever soldiered on with two different singers for two more albums in 2003 and 2004, called it quits in 2006, then reunited with Carrabba in 2010.

With Carrabba back behind the mic, Further Seems Forever will release Penny Black on October 23. “So Cold” is the first single, and it’s a knockout. Just like Carrabba, come to think of it. The 37-year-old singer can’t help but strike an incongruous pose next to his new-old bandmates.

If all of this Further Seems Forever reunion business has you concerned, Dashboard Confessional fans, indications are that Carrabba plans to pull double duty with both bands.
