David Lynch‘s collaboration with Lykke Li makes so much sense it’s a wonder it took this long.
The Swede’s wounded rhymes are a perfect match for the oddball auteur who’s given music more of his attention in recent years. Following 2011’s Crazy Clown Time, Lynch’s sophomore album, The Big Dream, arrives July 16. Li guests on the set’s bonus track, “I’m Waiting Here.”
Longtime Lynch fans will hear echoes of Twin Peaks chanteuse Julee Cruise in Li’s performance, even if the director notes that “[s]he brought her own style to this song, which has a doo-wop sort of thing going on, but in a way it’s far-removed from the ’50s.”
The music video for “I’m Waiting Here” shares a striking similarity to his 1997 film, Lost Highway, though the concept came from Li and artist Daniel DeSure without Lynch’s involvement.
