Turn It Up

Feast on Fenech-Soler

I’ve had Fenech-Soler‘s self-titled debut, released last September, sitting in a stack of CDs for a few months now, part of my half-yearly splurge at Amazon UK. But it was only a few days ago that I got around to giving the young British band a proper listen. Shame on me for waiting so long!

When I got the disc in January, little from the Northamptonshire four-piece was available for download here in the U.S. As one of my guiding principles for featuring music is the ability for readers (you!) to have the opportunity to purchase it, I’d set Fenech-Soler aside for future consideration.

Taking the disc out to give it a belated spin on Friday afternoon, I simultaneously checked iTunes and discovered an official release from the band. The Demons EP features tracks from the album (“Demons,” “Lies,” and “Stone Bridge”) plus an acoustic version of the title track. Released at the tail end of March, it’s a well-rounded sampler of the muscular electro-pop that Fenech-Soler serves up.

“Demons” is my second favorite Fenech-Soler track. (Top honors go to “Golden Sun,” something of a house-music-meets-the-Neptunes track, but you’ll have to wait for the full-length release to snag that one.)

While I dig “Demons,” there’s much to recommend about “Lies” too. No surprise that both songs were singles in the UK.

Purchase Fenech-Soler – Demons EP via iTunes.

A fourth track from the band’s eponymous debut (and its first single), “Stop And Stare,” is available separately on a couple of dance compilations. Definitely worth a listen (and download) too. Can you tell I’ve fallen for Fenech-Soler? (Apologies for my tardiness, fellas!)
