Hoping to gain some traction for her long-delayed third album, Glassheart, today Leona Lewis premiered a new song, “Trouble.” Co-written by rising Scottish talent Emeli Sandé, “Trouble” follows Lewis’ Avicii-assisted single, “Collide,” released nearly a year ago.
Though “Collide” reached #4 on the UK charts and managed to give Lewis her first #1 dance hit in the U.S., Glassheart was pushed back to the following spring, allowing time for additional studio sessions. In its place, Lewis issued Hurt: The EP in December, which included a surprisingly good rendition of the Nine Inch Nails song, alongside covers of Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris,” Counting Crows’ “Colorblind,” and Snow Patrol’s “Run.” The EP was produced by Fraser T. Smith (Adele, Florence + The Machine), who signed on as executive producer for Glassheart. New album release dates were announced and then changed, but now Glassheart looks solidly on deck for mid-October.
“Trouble,” which features a rap from Childish Gambino (aka Community‘s Donald Glover), continues the darker, dramatic thread that Lewis last left us with, now delivered through a song of her own. “‘Trouble’ tells the story of love going bad and becoming destructive, aspects of which we can all relate to,” she explains. “It’s a deeply emotional and poignant song that I have a real connection to.”
Leona Lewis – “Trouble” (feat. Childish Gambino) is out October 7.
