I’ve lamented a startling lack of traditional R&B from today’s artists, so I probably shouldn’t trumpet Ne-Yo‘s move to dance-pop with his latest single, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself).”
But featuring a co-write from Sia — on a streak thanks to “Titanium” and “Wild Ones” — and production by Norwegian pop team Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry), “Let Me Love You” is irresistible. The single debuted at #1 in the UK this past week, Ne-Yo’s fourth chart-topper there.
Without thinking beyond the moment and the meaning of it all, I can’t help but love Ne-Yo’s switch. But some of the parties involved should send a giant fruit basket to Kim Carnes, as the song’s chords were plucked straight from “Bette Davis Eyes.”
For those with a burning desire to see Ne-Yo perform “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” live, check out the season finale of America’s Got Talent on NBC tomorrow night.
