Sounding like the reincarnation of Karen Carpenter, British singer-songwriter Rumer may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but her steeped-in-the-’70s sound hits the spot for me.
Though I’m largely a beat-loving kinda guy, sometimes I need a break from the densely-packed pop and amped-up indie rock that usually pumps my eardrums, however fantastic. Rumer’s easy-listening vibe is a soothing switch, particularly on a rainy day, or an autumn afternoon.
The release of Rumer’s debut Seasons Of My Soul was timed perfectly to such occasions in her native UK, arriving last November. But record contracts still being what they are (cemented in the Stone Age), Rumer’s set is only now being prepped for a U.S. release. First single “Slow” became available for download here on Tuesday, and while it’s not my favorite track on Seasons Of My Soul (that would be “Aretha”), it’s a smooth introduction to Rumer’s style.
