Certainly left-of-center compared to the music typically presented on Popservations, The Vaccines have still managed to rate a post exactly once a year since their 2011 debut.
Today, the London band ticks the box for 2020 with their new single, “Melody Calling.” The title track to an EP recorded in Los Angeles and released last week, The Vaccines obviously embraced the change of scenery, soaking up the mellow SoCal vibes and exchanging the band’s previous jagged punk aesthetic for a smoother, more intimate feel. “Melody Calling” brings these gentlemen’s gentler nature to the fore, with a slightly fuzzy guitar solo the only nod to the The Vaccines’ whiplash past.
The music video for “Melody Calling” premiered today, in which one of the guys, bassist Arni Arnason, turns to his three compadres for advice in landing the love of a lady who’s caught his attention.
