Video Premiere

‘Outside’ the box

Having grown tired of his Oscars-hosting, multi-degree pursuing, finger-penis tweeting, feline bench-pressing antics, I’m officially trading in James Franco for a newer, younger model, namely his little brother, Dave.

Like James, Dave is also an actor, but the 25-year-old is even easier on the eyes and presumably saner than his older sibling. He had a role in the revamped final season of Scrubs, but in addition to this NSFW gem, he’s garnering buzz by starring in a music video for “Go Outside” by NYC indie pop boy/girl duo Cults.

It’s the second of MTV’s new “Supervideos” series, which for the unitiated are “a collaboration between a cool director, cool actors, and even cooler music.” In “Go Outside,” Dave Franco stars with Emma Roberts (Julia’s niece), dolled up a la Brigitte Bardot, in a fantasy-meets-reality clip directed by Patrick Hoelck. It reminds me of Splash (or really any fish-out-of-water flick).

In song form, “Go Outside” has been hanging around for over a year, originally released on 7″ via Forest Family Records. Now signed to Columbia/In The Name Of (Lily Allen’s vanity imprint) the duo is working on their debut album (expected this spring). Capitalizing on the premiere of the MTV Supervideo, “Go Outside” can be purchased via your favorite music purveyor as of this week.

Purchase Cults – “Go Outside” via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
