“In For The Kill” served as the second UK single for electro-pop duo La Roux back in March 2009, but now Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid are looking to build upon the breakthrough success of their debut “Bulletproof” here in the States (an impressive #8 hit). So they’re debuting a brand-new video for the somewhat-old song, their tune that most closely resembles Speak & Spell-era Depeche Mode.
There wasn’t much of a story to the original clip, which features Jackson behind the wheel of a late-’80s Toyota MR2. One can imagine some record-label exec saying that American viewers might not possess the mental capacity to process Jackson’s right-side driving, and thus would tune out entirely. Avoiding such confusion (while allowing that UK fans might think it uttery bonkers to film another video), this second version of “In For The Kill” steers clear of the road La Roux previously traveled.
Directed by Geremy Jasper & Georgie Greville (Florence + The Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over,” which won a 2010 VMA for Best Art Direction), the action takes place at New York City’s infamous Chelsea Hotel, with two creepy gentlemen, a sailor voyeur, Britney Spears’ snake, and a rather tall can of hairspray (you can probably guess who that’s for) in for this new ‘Kill.’
In her pair of Tweets to fans re: the new video, Jackson promised new La Roux material next year.
