Christina Aguilera has released the video for “You Lost Me,” her third single from Bionic. Neither “Not Myself Tonight” nor “Woohoo” performed to chart expectations, with some critics dismissing her album as pale imitation of Lady Gaga. I take issue with that assessment; I really do think Bionic is one of the best pop releases of 2010.
Anyway, unlike much of the album, “You Lost Me” is definitely not electro-pop. It’s a slow-burning ballad that showcases the vocal acrobatics Aguilera is known for (“Damn that girl can sing,” says Pink) with nary a scary synth line in sight. Give the people what they want (Christina vs. Xtina), I guess, and if the more vulnerable “You Lost Me” makes them take another look at Bionic, there could be worse strategies:
