The music made by Broken Bells (Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, with The Shins’ James Mercer) is imbued with a somewhat spacey vibe, so I’m not completely surprised the duo’s new video for “October” is set in the deep black of the final frontier.
The clip is being billed as an interactive 3-D music video, but the graphic treatment makes for an experience that’s truly more Tron (the quaint original, not the forthcoming sleeker sequel) than anything Avatar. (Maybe I need a bigger screen.) Still, it serves as a neat diversion for a few minutes, especially for those who choose the create-your-own-adventure (er, ‘interact’) route.

The mouse-as-interactive-instrument reminded me of another group’s similar foray into interactive video. Check out the Spanish band Labuat’s “Soy Tu Aire,” an inkblot variation I was tipped off to last summer (also with a save-and-replay feature).
