On October 16, Sky Ferreira will release her Ghost EP, the much-anticipated follow-up to last year’s brilliant, overlooked, and now amazingly disappeared As If! EP. “Red Lips,” the first single from Ghost, co-written by Garbage’s Shirley Manson and produced by Greg Kurstin, was released in July.
Today, Ferreira shared the video for her second single, “Everything Is Embarrassing,” co-written by Ariel Rechtshaid and Dev Hynes (Blood Orange). Grant Singer directed the story-free clip, which frustratingly frames Ferreira in clichéd urban settings. Sit in this subway car! Stand on this rooftop! In this stairwell! Hang by this playground equipment! Lean against this tree!
For such a strong tune, this video is embarrassingly underwhelming.
I still haven’t gotten over how As If! fell flat, and for Ferreira to have a Ghost of a chance now, someone on Team Sky had better step in and demand a narrative next time.
Here’s the tracklisting for Ghost:
01 “Sad Dream”
02 “Lost In My Bedroom”
03 “Ghost”
04 “Red Lips”
05 “Everything Is Embarrassing”
Sky Ferreira – Ghost EP is out October 16.
