‘King’ Of The Charts?

In 2006, Cassie scored a #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with debut single, “Me & U,” and released her self-titled album. But then the fashion-model-turned-singer found she couldn’t catch a break. Subsequent singles failed to catch fire, and her sophomore set, the tantalizingly titled Electro Love, was left to languish in limbo, unreleased.

Poised to put the past behind her and start fresh, Cassie has released a new single, “King Of Hearts,” the first glimpse of her new album, The Seductress, expected this spring. From the sounds of this J2-produced dance-pop drama, in which Cassie’s airy vocals practically levitate above a thick, Latin-influenced beat, “King Of Hearts” could very well be the tune that crowns the 25-year-old a new queen of the charts.

The music video for “King Of Hearts” has premiered today, appropriately timed to Valentine’s Day. There’s a vague stalker-ish plot to the clip, but mostly it’s just lots of shots of Cassie posing. I doubt I’m the target viewer, so perhaps that’s the point.
