I’ll admit that I was less than enraptured with Kylie Minogue‘s new single, “Into The Blue,” upon first listen. The song’s opening “yee-oh-oh-oh-oh” chant and EDM-lite production pointed to the involvement of the will.i.am, with whom she’s coaching The Voice UK.
Surprised to discover that pop music’s soul destroyer had kept his distance from Kylie (Mike Del Rio produced “Into The Blue”), it still took me a while to give the song a second shot. By spin three, I’d completely surrendered to this declaration of self-sufficiency. “Into The Blue” will most certainly serve as the closing number on Kylie’s next tour.
On Monday, Kylie premiered the music video for “Into The Blue,” directed by frequent collaborator Dawn Shadforth (“Spinning Around,” “In Your Eyes,” “Chocolate,” “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head,” and “2 Hearts”). While the women certainly know how to craft a striking vision together, the addition of French actor Clement Sibony adds some additional interest.
“Into The Blue” is the first single from Kiss Me Once, Kylie’s 12th studio album, arriving March 14.
