I might not have imagined that Pet Shop Boys would embrace lyric videos, but as they’re part and parcel of pop music promotion these days, really why wouldn’t the duo adopt them?
Thus we have Pet Shop Boys’ second such entry, for “Leaving,” the second single (and lead track) from their forthcoming album, Elysium, out September 11. The lyric video’s appearance coincides with the song’s debut today on BBC Radio 2 in UK.
Not much to look at below (the camera pans slowly up toward the sky), but if you haven’t yet heard “Leaving,” you’re in for a treat. The song floats on a cloud, with wonderfully layered background/answer vocals and the lightest touch of deep-house synths, classic Pet Shop Boys style.
“Leaving” will be released as a single on October 15 on CD, 12″ vinyl, and download bundles with extra tracks and remixes. There are two different covers, one featuring Neil Tennant (as seen at right), the other Chris Lowe.
Pet Shop Boys recently sat down with The Huffington Post to talk about Elysium, including comparisons to Behaviour and the album’s park-inspired title. Absolutely worth the watch.
