Five years have passed since Missy Higgins released her sophomore album, On A Clear Night, whose “Where I Stood” made the rounds on Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and So You Think You Dance. Worn down by constant touring, she nearly called it quits.
But Higgins couldn’t quiet her love for music, and last year she decamped to Nashville to record The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle, produced by fellow Aussie singer-songwriter Butterfly Boucher and local engineer Brad Jones. Pouring the experiences from her break into a set of new tunes written with Boucher, Katie Herzig, Dan Wilson, and others, Higgins’ third album arrived in the U.S. yesterday.
After the unrestrained emotion of first single, “Unashamed Desire,” Higgins follows up with the swinging “Hello, Hello,” penned with Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin. The music video features Higgins unsuccessfully trying to make a go of it with her koala-headed boyfriend, whose marsupial tastes she cannot match. Directed by Kasimir Burgess, the clip features some additional extra-species action — Higgins has a wild side too — but thankfully refrains from going full-furry.
