After venturing into John Mayer “Your Body Is A Wonderland”-territory with first single “Just The Way You Are” and expressing his undying devotion (or more accurately, his ready-to-die devotion) to the object of his affection in “Grenade,” Bruno Mars offers the fairer sex a reality check of what might really be waiting back at home, tapping into his primal instinct to do nothing and let it all hang out in “The Lazy Song.”
I normally run the other way when anything musically approaches reggae (and whistling can drive me absolutely bananas), but there’s something about the pared-down sound of “The Lazy Song” that’s working for me at the moment. It’s a trifle of a tune, but its carefree vibe couldn’t be more perfectly time for springtime (well, except that usually one wants to head outside).
The music video for “The Lazy Song” is a one-take shot, in which Mars even does a bit of choreography with his monkey-masked friends. Amazingly (or not) he bests what Britney Spears is currently passing off as dancing.
