Nelly Furtado’s Party Of Five

Whoa, Nelly Furtado’s The Spirit Indestructible hasn’t proved to be such a powerful force. One of the biggest commercial disappointments in recent memory, Furtado’s fifth studio album has sold less than 10,000 copies to date in the U.S. by my calculations.

The thing is, The Spirit Indestructible isn’t a terrible album. It certainly suffers from some weak tracks, and even weaker single choices. And some of the best songs were relegated to the deluxe edition. It’s probably too late to salvage the project (if anyone’s still paying attention), but one of my favorite tracks on The Spirit Indestructible is finally getting a shot as the set’s fifth (!) single.

“Bucket List” came in at #76 on Popservations’ Top 100 Tracks of 2012, the song that stayed on repeat when the album came out last September. The music video isn’t very interesting, following a group of five friends who don’t really attempt anything bucket list-y. And I could do without Furtado’s yammering at the start (“We are all mammals, after all”). But do give “Bucket List” a listen and see if you don’t think it deserves a second spin.

Purchase Nelly Furtado – “Bucket List” via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
