Video Premiere

Not So Black And White

If you didn’t know, you might mistake Jessie J‘s new song, “Domino,” for the sixth single from Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream (an honor that goes to “The One That Got Away,” and not “Hummingbird Heartbeat” or “Pearl” as I’d hoped).

And yes, since Jessie J co-wrote “Domino” with Dr. Luke and Max Martin, who had a heavy hand in crafting Perry’s Teenage Dream and its string of #1 hits, and opened for Mrs. Russell Brand on tour, such confusion between the two raven-haired warblers must be understood. But with the UK singer-songwriter still trying to make inroads stateside, distinctions must be made!

Thus the music video for “Domino” is something of a “get to know Jessie J” affair. Concert footage is interspersed with cinéma vérité moments of her generally seeing the sights of America, including some busking at a New York City subway stop. It’s not the most interesting music video ever, so this clip probably won’t be Jessie’s J’s big breakout moment, though let there be no doubt that I really do love “Domino”). At the very least, it’s nice to see Jessie J out and about with different hairstyles that aren’t so Severe Cleopatra.
