“Written In Red,” the new single from London’s My Tiger My Timing, is a nice continuation of the post-punk thrills I felt from the quintet’s “Endless Summer” back in August.
My Tiger My Timing describes “Written In Red” as an “understated, modern anthem about love during wartime.” The song’s ’80s sound (particularly the meandering guitar and bass) is perfectly complemented by the early MTV aesthetic of the music video for “Written In Red,” just out today.
Director Jenny Sadler frames frontwoman Anna Vincent and each of her bandmates in front of a series of colored backdrops, interspersed with scenes in which different motion graphics are projected onto them. The black-and-white checkerboard effect is my fave, also something of a throwback, forever associated with iconic English ska label, 2 Tone.
As they so graciously did with “Endless Summer,” My Tiger My Timing has posted several remixes of “Written In Red” for free download via the band’s Facebook page.
2012 will bring more new music from the band, as their debut album is due out next spring.
