Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris remixed Florence + The Machine’s “Spectrum (Say My Name)” for the single’s release in July, securing Florence Welch’s outfit a first-ever UK number one.
Returning the favor, Welch contributes vocals on Harris’ new single, “Sweet Nothing.” The track will appear on his third album, 18 Months, the long anticipated follow-up to 2009’s Ready For The Weekend. Since that time, Harris’ profile has only grown in the pop world, working with Rihanna (“We Found Love” and “Where Have You Been”), Scissor Sisters (“Only The Horses”), and Cheryl Cole (“Call My Name”), while securing a worldwide hit as a solo artist with “Feel So Close.”
Yesterday, Harris premiered the music video for “Sweet Nothing,” directed by Vincent Haycock. If you can make heads or tails of the storyline — Is Welch performing in a strip club? Is Harris exacting revenge on an unkind patron? — you’re a much more astute viewer than I.
Also, while I’ve long kidded about Welch’s resemblance to female impersonator Charles Busch, the androgynous look she adopts in the “Sweet Nothing” clip really does suit her. She’s a knockout.
In addition to “Sweet Nothing,” 18 Months will include Harris’ collaborations with Kelis (“Bounce”), Rihanna (the aforementioned “We Found Love”), Example, Nicky Romero, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Ne-Yo, and Ayah Marar.
Calvin Harris – 18 Months is out October 30.
