Just as Santa Claus reliably hitches his reindeer to his sleigh every December 25, delivering presents to good girls and boys — a tradition that’s close to two centuries old — The Killers set aside December 1, World AIDS Day, to debut their annual charity single for the (RED) Campaign.
For seven years running, the Las Vegas band has recorded a new Christmas-themed song to benefit the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS. This year’s offering is “I Feel It In My Bones,” in which Brandon Flowers pleads with Santa Claus (voiced by fellow Vegas singer-songwriter Ryan Pardey) to reconsider the frontman’s status on his naughty list.
No surprise then that the video for “I Feel It In My Bones” isn’t exactly brimming with Christmas cheer, either. Directed by Robert Schober, who lensed last year’s “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball,” Pardey’s Biker Santa has a bone to pick with The Killers, none of whom are sleeping peacefully as we witness his murderous road trip.
I agree that Mr. Kringle has a bit of a point with Battle Born, but swapping spots, I’d get visions of sugarplums dancing in sweet Brandon’s head again in no time.
What hasn’t changed in seven years? The very best Christmas song from The Killers remains the very first.
