One of my favorite albums of 2012 from one of the year’s brightest new talents, Jessie Ware‘s Devotion has been scrubbed from download services ahead of the UK soulster’s introduction in the U.S. next month via Cherrytree Records/Interscope. But across the pond, there’s been no such pause in promotion of Devotion, as evidenced by today’s release of the music video for “Sweet Talk.”
Casting kids as wee adults can be the worst idea ever, but good examples do exist, like Tensnake’s “Something About You.” And “Sweet Talk,” which stars a preteen as a pint-sized Jessie Ware (and Ware as her mother) is also well done. Ware’s producer Julio Bashmore has also been miniaturized (shout-out to my redhead brethren).
Directed by Joel Wilson, “Sweet Talk” is clever without being too cute.
Ware’s stateside debut will also be on a smaller scale, with the If You’re Never Gonna Move EP arriving January 15. The title is taken from the song formerly known as “110%,” which had to be revised for the U.S. release after failing to secure clearance for the original track’s Big Pun sample. “Sweet Talk” will reportedly be included on the EP.
