My first musical encounter with Stevie Nicks was not as a member of Fleetwood Mac, but through “Edge Of Seventeen,” the third single from her 1981 debut solo album, Bella Donna.
I actually didn’t get into Fleetwood Mac until my freshman year of college (about a decade later), with the time between giving flight to my love for solo Stevie. I remain absolutely enamored with 1983’s “Stand Back,” one of my favorite tunes of all time. If I had to hear only one song over and over for eternity, “Stand Back” would be up near the very top.
News of new Stevie Nicks material is always cause for celebration, which is why I’m looking forward to next Tuesday’s release of In Your Dreams, her first studio album in a decade. The set is produced by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard.
“Secret Love,” the first single, was released in February, and today Spinner premiered the song’s music video, directed by Stewart. It’s something of a family affair, with Nicks’ goddaughter Kelly cast as a younger version of the singer, and Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood prominently seen in the clip too. And as you might expect from a Stevie Nicks video, lots of spinning is involved.
Steve Nicks’ new album, In Your Dreams, arrives next Tuesday.
